The 33rd Annual Sports Day of Indian School Al Ghurbra was conducted on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Sultan Al Qaboos Stadium. The event was graced by Mr Ali Abdullah Harib Al-Habsi, a famous Omani goalkeeper, the Chief Guest and Mr. Andy Watson, Head Coach, Al Habsi Football Academy, the Special Guest. The Sports Captain Jahnavi Vinod welcomed the gathering.

The meet started off with the March Past by the students of the four houses from classes 9 to 12. Leading the March Past were Daksh Saraf, Head Boy and Jahnavi Vinod, Sports Captain girls. The March Past was followed by the Peace Run by the sporting champions who did our school proud in various National and International Meets. The Chief Guest declared the meet open after the Head Boy Daksh Saraf rendered the oath.

Several athletic events were conducted for boys and girls under different categories. The drill displays were a joy to behold. The sporting enthusiasts captivated the spectators with their synchronised movements coupled with the skillful use of the prop while following the rhythmic beats. The Inter House Neuro Muscular coordination movements’ competition by the four houses showcased their exercise routine that proved their mettle. The Chief Guest shared a few valuable tips on goalkeeping with our football enthusiasts.

The Overall Trophy as well as the first prize in the March Past was won by Muscat House. Sur House was placed first in the Neuro Muscular Coordination Movements’ competition. The Chief Guest and the Special Guest gave away the prizes to the winners of the several events. The Beating Retreat ceremony which marked the culmination of the athletic meet, was led by the Head Girl, Aditi Guru, the Head Boy, Daksh Saraf, the Vice Head Girl, Ashna Claire Rathish and the Vice Head Boy, Devansh Saraf. This was followed by the Chief Guest declaring the meet closed. The Grand Finale performed by the girls of Classes 6, 7 and 8 was a fitting finale to the evening’s events. The sports meet ended with the Vote Of Thanks proposed by the Head Girl, Aditi Guru.

The curtains of the 33rd Annual Athletic Meet were drawn promising to continue the legacy of sportsmanship and team spirit.
