ISG STUDENTS ATTEND HARVARD MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE

Six students of Indian School  Al Ghubra- Alisha Sinha, Samreen Naqvi, Shreja Janarthanan, Mohammad Khuroo, Anoushka Madavi and Thana Aysha – along with  the MUN Coordinator Mrs. Maleka Ariwala ,  attended the Harvard Model United Nations Conference in Hyderabad, India.

The HMUN is held annually and hosts approximately 1,400 delegates gathered from countries all over the world. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Converge for Change’. The delegates were placed in committees headed by Harvard students, to find comprehensive solutions to the most daunting problems faced by the world such as uncontacted cultures, globalization in public health, climate change in least developed countries and transitional justice.

Talks by eminent personalities such as Mr. Chandrasekar Radhakrishnan, Vice President – Coca-Cola India & South-West Asia and Mr. D Shivakumar Group Executive President at Aditya Birla group enlightened the delegates during the conference and set the tone for the proceedings.

During the conference , sessions held by the various committees, witnessed proposals put forward by many unmoderated and moderated caucuses covering various aspects of the topics which were succeeded by constructive discourse and debates. Delegates voiced a vast multitude of opinions based on their country’s position on the issue. After much deliberations, the final resolution was passed.

The conference also gave the delegates an opportunity to interact with students from different countries of the world. Events such as HMUN’s Got Talent offered a platform for the delegates to showcase their talents and make memories that will forever be treasured.

After the conference, the students spent two days admiring the architectural wonders of iconic historical sites of Hyderabad, such as the Char Minar, Golconda fort, Qutub Shahi tombs, the Falaknuma palace and Chowmahalla palace.

 Dinner at the restaurant ‘ Dialogue In The Dark’ which simulated a void of complete darkness for visitors to empathise with the blind was an unforgettable experience. The camping trip taught valuable life lessons about taking risks, respecting nature and the importance of keeping fit and to work in cooperation. The entire journey allowed students gain a deeper awareness of the world they live in .

HMUN India’s unique focus on diplomacy, collaboration and social change enabled the delegates to participate in a truly global conversation. The memories of this enriching experience will be cherished by the ISG students forever.
