ISG CELEBRATES 34TH ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET

Indian School Al Ghubra conducted its 34th Annual Athletic Meet on Monday, November 25, 2024 at the

ROP stadium, Wattayah. The evening was filled with great zeal and excitement amidst thrills, shrills and cheers. The proceedings of this auspicious day commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest Mr. Ali Anwar Al-Balushi, a famous Omani sprinter, the Guest of Honour Ms. Mazoon Khalfan Saleh Al-Alawi, Oman’s Sprinting Star on the Olympic Stage and the special guest Mr. Ali Abdullah Ali Al Marzuqi, Vice- President- Oman Athletic Association. Hanisha Manish Chawla, Sports Captain- Girls, welcomed the gathering.

 

The meet started off with the March Past. The students of the four houses- Muscat, Nizwa, Sohar and Sur, from classes 9 to 12, marched in unison, exemplifying discipline and collective pride. Leading the March Past were Rabeeu Al Zaman, Sports Captain- Boys and Hanisha Manish Chawla, Sports Captain-Girls. The March Past was followed by the Peace Run by the sporting champions who represented the school in various National and International Meets. The Chief Guest declared the Athletic Meet open after Hanisha Manish Chawla, Sports Captain-Girls rendered the oath.

 

The air was charged with the spirit of competition as athletes showcased their prowess in a kaleidoscope of events, with fervour across diverse categories. Beyond the competitive edge, Sports Day fosters a sense of camaraderie, where participants forge bonds that extend beyond the track. The drill displays were a joy to behold. The sporting enthusiasts captivated the spectators with their synchronized movements coupled with the skillful use of the prop while following the rhythmic beats. The Inter-House Neuro Muscular Coordination Movements’ competition by the four houses showcased their exercise routine that proved their mettle.

 

The Overall Trophy as well as the first prize in the March Past was won by Muscat House. Nizwa House

was placed first in the Neuro Muscular Coordination Movements’ competition. The Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and the Special Guest gave away the prizes to the winners of the several events. The Beating Retreat Ceremony which marked the culmination of the Athletic Meet was led by the Head Girl- Sanjana Kuzhivayalil Praveen, the Head Boy- Sabyasachi Choudhury, the Vice- Head Girl- Geetika Manoj Nambiar and the Vice-Head Boy- Mithun Manikandan. This was followed by the Chief Guest declaring the meet closed. The Grand Finale featured a captivating drill performed by the students of classes 6, 7 and 8. The sports meet ended with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Rabeeu Al Zaman, Sports Captain- Boys, expressing his sincere gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the Sports Meet. The 34th Annual Athletic Meet concluded with a spirit of unity, sportsmanship and celebration.
