ISG HOSTS MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE 2023 TO HONE LEADERSHIP SKILLS

Indian School Al Ghubra hosted the Model United Nations Conference on the 3rd and 4th of November 2023 at the school premises. The Chief Guest of the Opening Ceremony was Mr. Ahmed Rayees, Director – Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman and President of the School Management Committee. The function was also graced by Mr.  Sunil K. A - Convenor SMC and Mr. Rahim  Poozhkkunan – Member SMC, Principal Mrs. Papri Ghosh , Vice Principal ISG – Mr. G Sreekumar, and Vice Principal ISG International Mrs Pyarija Cidar.  The Secretary General of ISGMUNC – Aditi Guru delivered the Welcome Address which was followed by the Video message by the UN Secretary General Mr. Antonio Guterres and a presentation of the topics to be discussed in the various committees. In his address, Mr. Ahmed Rayees said that such conferences enhance public speaking and negotiation skills to reach a consensus which will help in transcending the walls and borders that are barriers to solving global issues. In an interactive session the members of the Press Corp posed questions to the dignitaries on their views and opinions on MUN conferences and received edifying responses. The Chief Guest then declared the ISGMUNC 2023 in session.

The theme of the conference was ‘Integrating Humanity beyond Walls’. Within this  overarching theme, the solutions to the many pressing problems such as ‘Regulation of AI’, ‘ Covid-19 Recession’  ‘Global Soil Crisis’ were deliberated upon by the delegates representing various countries in the committees.  During the journey from intense discussion to arriving at a consensus  many life lessons were learnt and useful skills acquired. 

On Day 2 Mr. Ahmed Rayees, Mrs. Sabina Salam and Mrs Papri Ghosh visited the Committees  to observe the proceedings and interacted with the delegates. Mr Ahmed Rayees even presented a crisis situation as a challenge for the delegates to think of possible solutions.

The Chief Guest for the Valedictory Function was the Principal Mrs. Papri Ghosh. Vice Principal Mr G Sreekumar was the Guest of Honour. The Director General of ISGMUNC, Devansh Saraf presented his closing remarks on the Conference. The Chief Guest, Mrs Papri Ghosh, in her address, spoke of leadership qualities to inspire the delegates which was followed by the Award Ceremony. The ISGMUNC Consensus Chronicle was released after which the conference was declared closed. The function concluded with a vote of thanks.
